Handmade Sun Hat - Ligún Wheat Straw
Details
This special edition of 10 unique handmade hats is the result of a collaboration between SISA and Trenzados de Cutemu.
Seeking to generate new junctions between craftwork and design, SISA invited this Chilean collective of women artisans to work together on a hat.
Trenzados de Cutemu poured their expertise on this craft into this collaboration, while SISA proposed exploring a new way of integrating color when braiding, to highlight the details of this delicate technique.
Each hat is one of a kind, since minimum movements or adjustments when braiding and sewing can radically change the visual result. This particularly reveals the craftsmanship of the artisans who worked on each hat and highlights the handmade character of the piece.
The process of making each hat takes several days and requires complex tasks: sowing, harvesting, drying, cleaning, removing buds, classifying, dyeing, braiding, stretching, shearing, flattening, sewing, blocking, finishing.
